Brave and inspiring women and men are coming together in every part of China in response to the needs of the rural poor. These dedicated people have a fascinating story to tell about serving the elderly, the sick and the forgotten. Unfortunately, they rarely use the internet and never write in the international language, English.
BRICKS is determined that these stories should reach as wide an audience as possible. We take the Chinese originals and post English language versions online. Our goal is to promote the work of these dedicated people and thus encourage greater donor participation in their work.
With our limited resources, we cannot translate the stories fast enough. Some are short, some are long and all need to be made into short pieces which capture in English, the spirit rather than the letter of the of the Chinese original.
You can help by receiving the raw feed of Chinese posts and occasionally choosing to prepare an English version of one that catches your attention and suits your time constraints.
By providing this simple service, you are sharing in the work of these wonderful people and helping BRICKS to promote their efforts word for word
Process
The stories that emerge from these people’s experiences arrive in our email box every day and need to be posted in English rapidly to keep their freshness. We need your help to translate the articles if we are to keep pace with the demand.
After you subscribe to our feed, you will receive the latest posts (in Chinese) as they are put up on the site. Pick one that interests you and Email me, Lucy Lu at lucy@greatwallappeal.org indicating the article(s) you want to translate. I will send a confirmation email back and tag the post as “being translated”.
Guideline for Translating Articles
- There is no need for word-by-word translations and we prefer conciseness that summaries the gist of the main points. Deleting irrelevant sentences and/or paragraphs when necessary.
- Be aware that the Chinese articles tend to be flowery and sensational. We want the English version sound professional and straightforward.
You can unsubscribe at any time and you are under no obligation to agree to translate any particular text.
Note that BRICKS does not charge the Chinese partners for this service and 100% of donations generated are passed on.
